An Enchanted Halloween

Boo! Its time to get spooky, pull out those cob webs, and refrain from dusting anything off! Just kidding, but if you are planning a Halloween party, or just really like to get in the spirit, here are some creative floral ideas to help haunt your house! First, let’s get silly with “the callas have eyeballs” arrangement, a perfect “trick or treat” party accent!

Now, get classy with a white floral “mumpkin.” This cutie is perfect for a coffee table or bar, and sure to be a great conversation starter among guests.

Also elegant, yet creepy, this centerpiece of muted tones, including succulents, feathers, and bony fingers is haunted haute!

Blood spattered roses can add some wicked romance to the hallowed evening.

If you have a ghoulish date, a black rose wrapped in ribbons is a great way to court the dead . . . or living.

Have an Enchanted Halloween!

Happy Anniversary Honey! by Ashley

One of the signs of a happy marriage is when time flies.  This week, I am celebrating my two year anniversary with my wonderful husband Will, and it feels like just yesterday.

By definition, an anniversary is “a date that is remembered or celebrated because a special or notable event occurred on that date.” So today, I would like to dedicate this blog to reminiscing about the flowers that made our wedding so unique and visually fantastic.gloriosabouquet

Sometimes, “more is more,” and the bouquets, constructed differently for each individual bridesmaid, certainly reflect this philosophy.

Will, the Groom, is indeed a creative man, and took on the task of researching and designing the men’s boutonnieres.

This arch, with full stems of purple vanda orchids, was the perfect frame for the most important words of the day.

We went with two varieties of cocktail decor – the ever classic floating candle grouping, and an abstract aluminum wire sculpture. The sculptures were inspired by Will’s Paul Smart Ducati motorcycle, which had its own place of honor at our wedding, after all, marriage is about compromise:)

Extremely lush, the colorful, voluminous table arrangements were made even more whimsical by the fastening of gloriosa lilies and orchids to curly willow branches.  Another lively detail was the use of brightly colored wire in the flutes of the trumpet vases.

When all is said and done, it is the people who are there that add the true magic and love to the day.

I love my Enchanted Girls!

Thank you forever and again to The Enchanted Florist, Kelley Cannon Events, Maggie Austin Cake, Lisa Boggs Photography, Main Event Catering, DC Rental, Oxon Hill Manor, Antje Wood, Tricia Suiduit and all of my friends and family who worked to make this one of the best days ever!

73rd Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour Tomorrow!

Every year The Twig  group organizes and opens to the public an impressive collection of historic homes in Alexandria.

The purpose of this tour is not just to satisfy the curiosity of nosy neighbors, but to raise funds for their organization which is dedicated to providing financial aid, volunteer service, and support to Alexandria Hospital.

twigAs a thank you to the homeowners, and a way of ensuring each house truly looks
its best, The Twig asks local flowers shops if they will donate a floral centerpiece to
the charity. This year we have the pleasure of providing something really special
for a great client of ours less then a block away on South Fairfax Street!

We went with a bold
sunflower and lemon yellow harvest look to compliment the homeowners Italian
heritage and taste and also echo the start of Fall!

weather projected to be in the 80’s its going to be a great day for strolling the
streets of old town!

Happening: Fashion Walk in Old Town!

Locals to Old Town know all about the trendy shops of

Alexandria’s Old Town Boutique District, but not everyone may know about the

fashion walk that is taking place this week on Thursday, September 18.

That’s right, starting at 6:00pm, with cocktails, The Shoe Hive, Hysteria,

and Prince Street’s newest gem,

Sara Campbell will be presenting this seasons newest looks.

Though technically not part of this event, how could we,

at The Enchanted Florist, not be excited to watch the spectacle from our prime

spot on the corner of 139 S. Fairfax and Prince!

In fact, being that this week in September is one of our busiest,

I suspect any passerby may spy our team hard at work on Fall creations of our own!

See you Thursday!

Flowers for Teachers!

It’s that time of year…Back to School!!

Ahh, the kids are back in school, and what better way to show this year’s teachers

how appreciative you are than with a floral gift!

Try a ceramic cube with a ruby red or granny green apple

nestled among roses and foliage.

For the art teacher, how about a colorful composition including

a small bundle of crayons!

A mini orchid dressed with moss and twigs is sure to be appreciated even by the most rigid of professors.

And for the Dean why not go all out with a magnificent bouquet in the school colors. This one is for the Clemson Fans!!

. . . or maybe opt for the ever tasteful white and green.

Thank you to our Teachers, hope this school year is awesome!

Trending: The Colors of Fall

One of the best things about flowers is that they are seasonal.  This means that the designs we create are constantly changing to reflect the varieties and colors of each new month.  This fall, Pantone has put together a palate that is fresh and sure to inspire some great arrangements!
In the detail below, Aurora Red coxcomb, Misted Yellow sunflower, Cognac kiwi vine and Radiant Orchid dendrobiums make a bright fall composition.
Using these colors for inspiration we can then take our designs one step further by adding in natural autumnal elements such as fall leaves, gilded lotus pods, and apples paired with wheat.
For the autumn birthday, consider doing a twist on our website favorite, The Hot Brights, with a stylish burlap wrap.
So, in the next couple of months when choosing flowers, let nature help guide your creativity, and we will all experience the freshness of each new moment in time!

Florals for My Irish Table book release party!

Our friends at Restaurant Eve achieved another milestone this week with the release of their debut cookbook, My Irish Table – written by owner and head Chef Cathal Armstrong. Much more than just a collection of recipes, this beautiful memoir contains colorful tales of Armstrong’s journey from his Irish upbringing and love of food early on – to his rise to become a leading chef in the sustainable food movement and owner of 7 food and drink establishments in the Washington DC Area. You can read more about the book and where to purchase here. We especially loved this review in the Examiner too!

We were thrilled to provide florals in Eve’s signature rich orange and verdant green for their New York book editors luncheon, hosted by Chef Armstrong in the tasting room at Restaurant Eve. Congrats to Chef and the entire Eat Good Food Group!

Mod florals for Mad Men

Who doesn’t love a theme night? Especially one as swanky and sexy as a Mad Men cocktail party. We can’t think of anything more glam than an evening of fizzy cocktails in delicate stemmed glassware and petite treats served up on an elegant mirrored trays. So when one of our favorite clients brought us in to complete the scene, we dove right into the retro theme and designed florals in sophisticated whites, cremes, and greys displayed in textured vases of varying metallic tones. We like to think Don Draper would have felt right at home – and we know Betty would have looked fab in that green gown!
